The
'More' sleeve has a simple, solarised still from the film, "designed" by
Hipgnosis. The full wording on the sleeve reads "Soundtrack from the film
MORE plated and composed by THE PINK FLOYD", using the definite article
which was to prove hard for the band to shake off for the next quarter of
a century. Pink Floyd spent just eight days putting music to a plot centered
around drug-taking hippies in Ibiza,
although some of the songs had made their live debuts sometime earlier.
The film was not a success, and has briefly been available on video, except
in France, where it is held in similar regard to
Easy Rider. Without having seen the film, which was directed by
Barbet Schroeder, it's difficult to know where the music fits, although
some of the titles indicate the sort of mood the tracks were obviously intended
to create. As was often the case, the music heard in the cinema is very
different from that re-recorded for the album. In particular, the song 'Seabirds',
heard as background music during a party scene, did not make it onto record.
