MATILDA
MOTHER
Concept:
This
song evokes the feeling of a child being read a bedtime story by mother.
Comment:
This song is inspired by the children's verse Cautionary Tales by Hillaire
Belloc. Comment:
An alternate title for this song was Wondering And Dreaming. Comment:
Syd's role-play as a frightened child, not wanting its mother to put out
the light after a bed time story, uses some of his most eloquent and poetic
writing. Comment:
Rick Wright's organ provides a
typical example of what Peter Jener christened "one of his Turkish
Delight riffs", referring to similarities with an advert for the
seductively delicious chocolate bar which was being screened at the
time. Comment:
The song was a favorite concert piece when Syd was in the band, and
was recorded for Pink Floyd's first
BBC radio session in October 1967.
