Hurricane Floyd Hits Miami
Reviews

Excellent show except for the fact that the crowd is extremely obnoxious. They start each set out very bad but calm down. One of the guys near the taper gives a nice running commentary about the show :) -TimV

Exhibit B: Before WYWH, the taper and his friends start complaining "Hey, we didn't come here to listen to no record, I can go home to hear the record..." Exhibit C: An obviously intoxicated concertgoer near the taper yells "Pink Floyd" at the top of his lungs ever few minutes, as if to inform everyone there that there was a Pink Floyd concert in progress (as if they didn't know)... Exhibits D,E,F: (got the idea yet!?!?) :oP

Track 1 "Radio Advertisement" is a snippet of a radio commercial that was broadcast in Florida during the weeks leading up to the show. One of the most interesting parts of the commercial is that while "Dogs" plays in the background, the DJ announces that tickets are "ten dollars in advance, twelve dollars during the day of the show"!!! Last time I saw the Floyd, I think I paid $65. Ahhhhhhh, the good 'ol days....

At 13:40 into the Pigs (3DO), Roger yells "Thirty!" amidst one of his STCFTHOTS screams. Sorry to be so exact, but when I was a newbie to ROIOs, I spent a number of hours listening to the Animals tour discs TRYING to hear Roger yell the infamous numbers. I figure that maybe it will help someone else hear it... After P3DO (Roger): "We're gonna take a break, and come back in... Hmmmm.... however long it takes us to put the screen up... twenty minutes..."

Roger and Dave both struggle through a number of vocal parts during the evening (particularly during Welcome To The Machine and Have A Cigar). Certainly NOT the best versions of these songs. After SOYCD VI-IX (Roger): "Thank You, Goodnight..." (in monotone voice)

I'm not convinced that "Money" and "Us & Them" are from the same mic source. A few things support this. First, during the bass intro for Money, the audience starts to clap along. It sounds awfully distant and has a lot of ambience/echo, as if the taper was now at the back of a hockey arena or stadium, much different than the previous songs. Second, the voices of the people around the mic are quite different. One of the conversations heard: "You think that pig is supposed to do that?" and the guy next to him says "I don't think so man, that pig is in about 6 pieces by now..." Totally DIFFERENT voices. Third, the sound is now tremendously bassy, almost overdriven. My guess is that this CD set was compiled from 2 different source tapes of the same show.

After Money (Roger): "Sorry we didn't manage to get the screen up, so you didn't see all our wonderful pieces of movie, but fuck it! Anyway, this is something else from Dark Side Of The Moon, it's called Us & Them, and thank you for coming..."

I'm not sure what to think of this CD. It runs hot and cold... I wouldn't completely disqualify it, but I wouldn't spend a lot of money to purchase it either. There are far better '77 vintage tour discs out there (Azimuth Coordinator 2, In The Flesh) to collect first.

Because of technical problems, the circular film screen couldn't be lowered and the pig, tethered to a flag pole throughout the show, caught fire, rather than simply explode, when detonated.

This is a somewhat frustrating CD. The performance seems to be good, but the sound varies from clear to muffled from time to time, almost as if someone kept moving back and forth in front of the mic.

The crowd is very obtrusive during the entire show. You can hear a number of conversations taking place around the taper, which although interesting (and at sometimes downright hysterical), take away from the overall enjoyment. Be prepared for excessive vulgarity, fireworks, planes flying overhead, lots of babbling drunk/stoned people, etc.

Exhibit A: During Sheep, the taper screams to someone in front of him "Sit your fucking ass down, you dumb motherf**kers!!!"
