Comment: The line " Maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control" refers to the summer of 1982, when the Royal Green Jackets band was playing a concert in Regent's Park and a bomb that had been planted under the stage by the Irish Republican Army exploded, killing 6 and injuring 28, most of them band members.

Comment: The Soldier, a sonnet written in 1914 by Rupert Brooke that includes the lines "If I should die, think only this of me. That there's a corner of a foreign field that is forever England." This was the inspiration for the words "In the corner of some foreign field" in this song.
