COMING
BACK TO LIFE
FACTS/COMMENTS Comment:
'Coming Back To Life' chronicles David
Gilmour's emotional rescue. During the High Court battles, the guitarist
split with his wife of years, Ginger. Though the split seemed inevitable,
it upset Gilmour deeply and he descended into a whirl of transient relationships
and a late spurt of reckless behaviour. Worried that he was getting
overweight, having indulged in the Epicurean delights to excess, and
that he was losing his drive to perform on stage, Gilmour felt "burned
out, shell-shocked and unhappy". It was this concern , only observable
in retrospect, that formed itself into this powerful and emotive song,
addressing how Gilmour felt revitalised by his love for Polly Samson,
which had brought about the return of his lust for life, and of enthusiasm
for his work.
