ASTRONOMY
DOMINE
FACTS/COMMENTS
Syd
Barrett: It all comes out of our heads, and it's not too far out to understand.

Nick
Mason: It doesn't really have a meaning or a story. It's a very typical
Syd Barrett song.

Roger Waters: Syd had one song that had anything to do with space-'Astronomy
Domine'. That's all. That's the sum total of all Syd's writing about space
and yet there's this whole fucking mystique about how he was the father
of it all.

Comment:
The first voice heard on the album, reciting the names of astronomical bodies
through a megaphone, belongs to Peter Jenner, one of the band's managers.
The opening Morse Code, is said to be gibberish.

Comment:
What is said at the beginning of Astronomy Domine?
That's Peter Jenner (the Floyd's manager) shouting something that sounds
like a horoscope and other stuff through a megaphone. Exactly what's being
said is real hard to decipher, but here's what Mark Brown and Matt Denault
have managed:
"Moon in both [houses]..."
"...Scorpio, [Arabian Skies], Libra..."
"...Pluto was not discovered until 1930..."
And then a bit that seems to be a preflight countdown:
"...[two/ten] seconds to [ignition]..."
"...all systems satisfied..."
Then, in the middle section of the song, you can hear something like
: "...just completed orbital..."
If anyone has a more complete description we'd love to hear from you.
