ANOTHER
BRICK IN THE WALL
Comment:
The first brick in Pink's wall is the loss of his father in the war.
This song also shows the parallels between rock and roll and war , comparisons
between a rock star (or any other job that involves travelling) leaving
his family behind , and a soldier going off to fight in a war. Roger
Waters: It is personal for me , but it's also meant to be about any
family where either parent goes away for whatever reason , whether it's
to go and fight someone or to go and work somewhere. In a way , it's
about stars leaving home for a long time to go on tour...and maybe coming
home dead , or more dead than alive.
Comment: The scene in The Wall movie where young Pink is playing with
an airplane while his mother prays. There is a plaque that reads "1939
- 1945 In honour of the officers , non-commissioned officers and men
of the 8th-9th battalion , The Royal Fusiliers , who gave their lives
in the Second World War at Anzio , A.D 1944. This is where Roger Waters
father died.
